Mercedes Benz OM motors (which stands for Oil Motor or diesel fuel motor) are absolutely the best in the business. Mercedes diesel motors routinely rack up half a million miles or more, and if the engine is rebuilt carefully to exacting standards it should run for another half a million miles. Alfa Romeo built beautiful DOHC all aluminum engines that are capable of producing very impressive power. With motors that were designed purely to deliver power a restoration often includes innovative modifications such as porting the cylinder head or choosing more aggressive cams and pistons.
